COSTA RICA

In Summer of 2017, I took my family vacation to Monteverde, Costa Rica, and it was an absolutely amazing experience. The hotel we stayed at was called Hotel Belmar, and it was a beautiful, eco-friendly property nestled in the rainforest. The views from our room were breathtaking, and we were constantly surrounded by the sounds of nature.

One of the things that stood out to me the most during our trip was the kindness and hospitality of the people we encountered. Everyone we met, from the hotel staff to the locals in the town, was incredibly friendly and welcoming. It really added to the overall atmosphere of the trip and made us feel right at home.

As for the food, it was definitely a highlight of the trip. Costa Rican cuisine is heavily influenced by a variety of cultures, including Spanish, African, and Indigenous, and the result is a diverse and delicious array of dishes. We were treated to a variety of traditional dishes, such as gallo pinto (a rice and bean dish), tamales, and empanadas, as well as fresh seafood like ceviche and grilled fish.

One of the most memorable meals we had was at a small, family-owned restaurant called Restaurante El Sabor de mi Tierra. The food was absolutely delicious and the atmosphere was intimate and welcoming. We also had the chance to try some of the local coffee, which was some of the best I've ever had.

Overall, our family vacation to Monteverde was a truly unforgettable experience. The hotel, the people, and the food were all amazing, and I can't wait to go back and experience it all again. If you're thinking about taking a trip to Costa Rica, I would highly recommend adding Monteverde to your list of places to visit.

During our family vacation to Monteverde, Costa Rica, we had the opportunity to go on a number of amazing excursions and adventures. One of the highlights of the trip was our visit to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, where we were able to go on a guided hike through the rainforest and see all sorts of incredible plants and animals. We spotted a variety of colorful birds, including toucans and parrots, and even saw a family of howler monkeys swinging from tree to tree.

Another memorable adventure was our visit to the Arenal Volcano National Park, where we hiked to the top of the volcano and were rewarded with breathtaking views of the surrounding area. We also had the chance to go white water rafting on the Sarapiqui River, which was an absolute blast. The rapids were thrilling, and the scenery along the way was breathtaking.

In addition to these outdoor adventures, we also had the opportunity to go ziplining through the rainforest and visit a local butterfly garden, where we saw all sorts of beautiful and exotic species.

Overall, our trip to Monteverde was filled with exciting excursions and adventures that we'll never forget. From hiking through the rainforest to white water rafting on the river, we were constantly on the go and having a great time. If you're looking for a place to go on an adventure, Monteverde is definitely worth considering.

Here are a few tips for people traveling to Costa Rica:

  1. Learn a few basic phrases in Spanish: While many people in Costa Rica speak English, it's always helpful to know a few basic phrases in Spanish. Greetings like "Hola" (Hello) and "Gracias" (Thank you) go a long way in showing respect and appreciation for the local culture.

  2. Pack light: Costa Rica is a tropical country, so lightweight and breathable clothing is a must. In addition, many of the activities you'll be participating in, such as hiking and white water rafting, will require you to carry your own gear, so it's best to pack light to make it easier on yourself.

  3. Bring insect repellent: Mosquitoes are common in Costa Rica, especially in the rainforest areas. Be sure to bring insect repellent and use it regularly to protect yourself from bites.

  4. Drink bottled water: While it's generally safe to drink the tap water in Costa Rica, it's always a good idea to play it safe and stick to bottled water, especially if you're traveling to a more rural area.

  5. Respect the local wildlife: Costa Rica is home to a wide variety of amazing plants and animals, and it's important to respect their natural habitat. Don't try to feed or touch the wildlife, and be sure to follow the guidelines of any nature reserve or park you visit.

  6. Don't be afraid to try new things: Costa Rica is a country with a rich and diverse culture, and there are plenty of new experiences to be had. Don't be afraid to try new foods, participate in local customs, and take part in exciting adventures. It's all part of the fun of traveling!
